employees and an annual production of 7,500 gallons, focused mainly on
the industrial market.

When
Mexico opened its border to the world market, the company reviewed its
long term strategies and goals to create a new vision.
From this review, Pinturas
Osel, S.A. de C.V. (OSEL) emerged, launching the brand name for the
highest quality decorative paint on the Mexican market. OSEL does not
pretend to be the biggest Mexican manufacturer of architectural
coatings, but the best. That is why from the beginning, OSEL chose quality
as the baseline of its competitive strategy.

OSEL
implements a visual communication system (Kanban) in order to coordinate
its logistics efforts. Delivery times and inventory levels decreased
significatively with this system which comprises since the customers
place their orders until OSEL sends its purchase orders to the
suppliers.

The
quality systems designed and implemented by OSEL, and the collective
learning of its involved personnel, were recognized with the "Premio
Nuevo Leon a la Calidad 1992" (Nuevo Leon State Quality Award
1992) and the "Premio Nacional de Calidad 1993"
(National Quality Award 1993, equivalent to the Malcolm Baldridge
National Quality Award). Currently, quality is not just a reality in the
way OSEL operates but also represents its competitive advantage.
